Squankum Divers return to Deal to continue search for missing swimmer

On Monday, August 16, 2010 at 14:45pm members of the Howell Fire District #1 Dive Team responded to Deal beach on a second request made by Police Chief Steven Carasia. The 30-year-old man, identified as Joshua Nevarez of Amityville, N.Y., who was staying with a family in Middletown, was swimming with a female friend at the unguarded beach off the Ocean Lane beach on Saturday. shortly before 4:30 p.m., when he tired and slipped below the surface, An unidentified female friend tried to pull Nevarez to safety, but could not, The woman was eventually rescued by a bystander, Rachel Rosenthal of Long Branch, officials said. The section of Deal beachfront where Nevarez was swimming is off limits, The Howell District #1 Dive Team worked in cooperation with the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office Aquatic Emergency Services Unit.

Squankum Divers Respond to Deal for Missing Swimmer

On 8/14/2010 at 18:23 hours a request was made by Deal police Chief Steven Carasia to activate the Howell Fire District #1 Dive Team for a body recovery of a 30-year-old man from New York who was swimming with a female friend at the unguarded beach shortly before 4:30 p.m. when he tired and slipped below the surface. Members of dive teams from Middletown and Howell responded, but the surf was too rough for them to search underwater for the swimmer, The Coast Guard on Saturday sent both a boat and helicopter and a personal watercraft owned by the Allenhurst Fire Department to search the surface.

Squankum Firemen Receive New Turnout Gear

The Howell Fire District No. 1 took delivery of new turnout gear for the firemen of Squakum Fire Company.  The new turnout gear has added safety features, such as a built in emergency bailout harness, emergency drag line and additional padding. 


 
Squankum Divers Respond To Weapon Recovery Operation

The Squankum Fire Company Dive Team Responded to a weapon recovery operation today - along with the Monmouth County Sheriff's Dept. Aquatic Emergency Services Unit and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.    The operation commenced at 0730 hours and was completed at approx. 1430 hours.  A special thanks to those who came out to help.

The Howell fire District No. 1 election results are as follows:

The budget passed by a vote of 48 YES, 13 NO.  Ira Matthews III and Alfred Pereira were re-elected to 3 year terms. 


 
Squankum Members Attend Surface Supply Diving Course

Squankum Fire Company has sent 15 members through the Surface Supplied Diving Course - Class 209.  Some of the members are gaining a certification as a Tender, while others are gaining a full certification as a surface supplied diver.  All members are trained by MSTCI - Maritime Security Training Consultants International.  A special thanks to Bill Fancher and Felix Aponte - who have gone out of their way to accommodate our schedule.


 
Squankum Santa Run Scheduled for December 20th

The Squankum Fire Company will have its annual Santa Run on December 20th beginning mid day.  Santa will tour the Fire District and stop wherever requested by a parent.  If you are interested in having Santa stop by your house to visit, please e-mail the secretary at bofcdistrict1@aol.com.  You will receive a confirmation once the route is set up.


 
Golden Axe Golf Classic Re-Scheduled for April 20, 2009

The Squankum Fire Company has postponed the Golden Axe Golf Classic until April 20, 2009.  With the Lt. Brian Brennan Stands Alone Golf Outing scheduled on October 29th - just 2 days after the Golden Axe Golf Classic; the fire company wanted the entire focus of the community on the golf outing to benefit Lt. Brian Brennan.   Openings are still available for the April 20, 2009 date, and we thank all of the original participants for staying with us on our new date!

SQUANKUM COMPLETING FIREMEN'S MEMORIAL

Squankum Fire Company is in the final stages of completing the Squankum Fire Company Memorial. Our goal is to have the memorial completed by Sept. 11th, 2008. Major enhancements and additions are already underway. We are completing the project using 100% donated funds. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
